Eye Surgery Information
Eye Surgery and contact lenses are changing the entire history of the earth because in the past people had no way to correct their eyesight if something went wrong. Contact Lenses first became used in the mid 1950's, and before that Prescription Glasses, or bifocals were used for a few centuries. Benjamin Franklin invented bifocals in 1760 as a way to help people see whether they had Myopia also known as nearsightedness or short sightedness or had Hyperopia also known as farsightedness or long sightedness; they were the first types of eyeglasses to use both a convex and a concave lens to assist with vision. These days, eye surgery is an extremely popular way to correct vision. It has only come about recently because of advances in technology that allow for the creation of highly sensitive tools and equipment. We also know a lot more about the structure of the eye now, helping us figure out the exact causes for certain types of eyesight deterioration. Laser Eye Surgery makes use of lasers to actually reshape the curve of the eye itself. It works by using a highly controlled, intense beam of energy to change the structure of the Cornea so that photons and light rays can enter from a different angle. Another type of eye surgery involves the insertion of permanent lenses that will correct vision the same way regular contacts would. The procedure eliminates the need to constantly put the contacts in or out, and the artificial lens is lubricated by the eye's own tears.
The history of eye surgery is fairly rough, with a lot of procedures that didn't quite work out the way they were supposed to. One of the first surgical procedures was known as Radial Keratotomy, and it involved the surgeon cutting small incisions in the eye in the shape of wheel spokes. This was used for nearsighted people and supposedly flattened the surface of the eye, thus correcting the Eyesight Problem. It was reported to work, but many of the patients complained about Vision Problems after the procedure had taken place. These problems included problems with night vision, regression back to the original state, changing vision, and several other problems. Photoreactive Keratectomy is a form of vision surgery that became the first operation to successfully use a laser. It was first used internationally and gained widespread use in Europe during the 80's, but it wasn't until 1995 that the FDA approved it for human use within the United States. There are people who believe that PRK is safer than the more commonly used LASIK surgery, and is often recommended for individuals with a thin cornea that wouldn't be able to hold up to the pressure of a LASIK procedure. Of course, there is no need for for this if you know the proper methods for protecting your eyesight. By taking the right precautions you can hopefully avoid most eye conditions, and surgery will never be a necessary course of action. There are a lot of different ways to Protect Your Eyesight, but a proper diet is by far the most beneficial. Remember nothing beats a healthy diet with the right balance of Vitamins and Minerals when it comes to preventing an Eyesight Problem.
