Typically with this inflammations the body increases the white blood cell count and produces chemicals so that the body can ward itself off of any foreign infections. You can see signs of the inflammation when the infected body part starts to swell, show any redness, causes pain, and gives off a 'warm' sensation.

This is exactly what is happening when the patient has had, or is having, this condition. This condition causes irritated and itchy eyelids and starts to form flaky-like skin near the eyelashes.

The occurrence of this eyesight disorder is fairly common among younger children, but this does not exclude the fact that even the elderly can get it.

Anybody can get this condition no matter how old they are. Despite the unattractive look, Blepharitis has not shown any signs of permanent damage to the eyes.

Wherever the eyelashes are, there are tiny oil glands. These oil glands are located by the base of the lashes and are known as the eyelid margins. These eyelid margins sometimes come in contact with the eyeball itself.

When this occurs, it is typically because the oil in those glands are either producing way too much oil, little to none, or simply not the right type of oil. Due to this fact, this condition tends to be reacquiring for a lot of people.

The second cause of Blepharitis happens when the skin on these eyelid margins start to change or changes to the surface of the eye occur.

Allergies have also been known to cause this condition. Women who use mascara might be a little too sensitive to the chemicals in it and their eye starts to react.

For both sexes, it could also be that they are allergic to contact lens solution. Other types of sprays, airborne allergies, and even animals can be the underlying cause of this.

Surprisingly, Blepharitis caused by bacteria is the least likely cause. This is because the eyelashes do a pretty good job in protecting the eye from any dust, small particles, and even hair. It is also quite rare that inflammation of the eyelids has happened due to mites or head lice.

The good thing is it is easily treatable and preventable. To Protect Your Eyesight you simply need to practice good eye hygiene.

It is recommended that you wash your face frequently, use warm and clean washcloth for the eyelids, and even use some gentle eyelid scrubs. There are many who have a regular routine in the morning like wake up, brush teeth, shower, etc. Simply include these eye hygiene steps while you go through your day.

During this process, if you already have this condition it is advised you stop wearing any makeup because it will greatly hurt your chances of fast recovery.

Avoid wearing contacts if you can during the treatment process and stick to glasses till all signs of inflammation is gone.
