Looking at a color blindness test chart is the easiest and most effective way to determine whether or not you have a color vision deficiency.

It's estimated that around 10 percent of every male that's born in the United States these days is at least partially color blind. Actually, color blind isn't the correct term for it at all.

People who are colorblind would technically not be able to see any colors at all, but in reality, individuals who are labeled as “colorblind” can actually see most colors perfectly fine. It's just a few colors that they are unable to see. The correct term for color blindness is color vision deficiency.

Men are as a whole much more susceptible to Color Blindness than women because of the way the condition is transmitted. It's a genetic disease, which means that it's passed down through the genes from parents to child.

The particular gene that deals with the way The Retina in the eye distinguishes color is housed in the X chromosome. If you don't know, there are two sex chromosomes, X and Y. Y is dominant in females, and X is dominant in males, so any traits that are held in the X chromosome will become dominant in a male offspring.

Females can carry the recessive X chromosome from their father, but except in very rare cases none of those traits will become active in them. Instead, they pass down that genetic code to their offspring. If that child is a son, there's a good chance that the stored genetic code from the mother's father will be transferred to the son, thus reawakening the dormant traits that belonged to the mother's father.

In these cases, the female acts as a carrier for the Cause of Color Blindness, and while neither of the parents are color blind the son can still be born with a color vision deficiency.

Of course, if you're a male you shouldn't rule yourself out immediately. Sometimes the Symptoms of Color Blindness are so slight that they're nearly impossible to spot unless you actually look at a color blindness test chart. Some people can live their entire lives to the fullest without ever knowing that they actually have some sort of color vision deficiency.

If you think you might be color blind, or if you are worried that your son is color blind, do a simple Google search for a color blindness test chart. These charts look like circles filled with abstract paint splatters. In the center of the circle, you should be able to see a number in a different color.

If you can't see the number, congratulations! You have a color vision deficiency. At this point it's probably a great idea to schedule an appointment with an Eye Care Professional or Eye Care Specialist so that you can determine which Type of Color Blindness you have and how serious is it.

There are temporary cures for color blindness in the form of Color Blindness Lenses , but talk to your doctor about all of your options.

Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to Protect Your Eyesight when it comes to Color Blindness, but most of the time it won't make any difference in your lifestyle.
