The Syed Modasser Ali Story
Syed Modasser Ali made many contributors to the field of ophthalmology.
He's an ophthalmologist from Bangladesh, and is also a former member of the Executive Board. Ali is the founder of the Mojibunnessa Eye Hospital, which is the first eye hospital to ever be registered in Bangladesh.
He is also one of the pioneers of public eye health, or Community Ophthalmology, and published a book about it in 1985 — widely considered to be the very first textbook ever written on that specific subject. Currently, Ali also serves as Health and Family Welfare and Social Welfare adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and also holds the rank of senior cabinet minister.
Syed Modasser Ali formerly acted as chairman of the Bangladesh Medical Research Council, and was both the director of the National Institute of Ophthalmology and the president of the Ophthalmic Society of Bangladesh. When he was chairman, the Bangladesh Medical Research Council was awarded with the World Health Organization 50th Anniversary Primary Healthcare Development Award.
Medicine has come along way, advancing in such a way as to allow you the chance to Protect Your Eyesight with minimized risk of complication.
A lot of people are very squeamish about the idea of eye surgery. It's hard to blame them; after all, the eye is incredibly sensitive and does not tend to tolerate invasion by foreign objects. Eye surgery seems to be all about doctors sticking terrifying metal implements into your eyes, poking about and carving at the tissue.
It's enough for some people to say, “That's OK, my glasses are working just fine.” However, the truth is that great strides have been taken in the field of ophthalmology (the study of the eye and the conditions it could potentially be susceptible to) to make eye surgery as safe and painless as possible.
For the more benign forms of surgery, such as Cataract Surgery
, patients experience relatively no pain or discomfort the entire time. Ophthalmology has been on the rise since ancient times, in fact, so there have been millennia of development.
There are plenty of notable ophthalmologists such as Albrecht von Graefe who have contributed a great deal to the study of the eye — there are far too many to list here, in fact, and the scale of their achievements varies substantially.
Some of the more famous ophthalmologists have pioneered useful methods for treating and operating on the eye that are still in use to day, including the famed surgeon Sushruta, who is said to have performed the very first cataract removal and written at great length about all sorts of Eye Diseases and their possible treatments.
There's also Harold Ridley, who developed the first artificial intraocular lens. Each of them has added a little something to the table, allowing ophthalmology to thrive as a medical field.
Developments are still being made, with a number of living ophthalmologists actively working to help improve the care available for people with Vision Problems.
With ophthalmologists like Syed Modasser Ali, the field is sure to become even more advanced than it is today. Hopefully someday, eye surgery will be in a place where people don't feel so apprehensive about receiving it.
