There might still be some doctors telling you that you can not wear soft Contact Lenses due to your eye condition. They will often recommend that you use gas permeable contacts instead.

This used to be true, but now toric lenses for astigmatism are a very valid choice. Your Eye Care Specialist or Eye Care Professional might also be misinformed about how many options you have with toric lenses.

They can be frequently replaced, have multifocal capabilities, and you can even have a colored pair. Typically anybody with Astigmatism can use these lenses, unless you have an extremely complicated condition or you simply were not able to see better with them after use.

These contact lenses are made with permeable polymers, which mean that they allow oxygen to pass through the contact and reach the eye. When oxygen passes through the eyes, this prevents any blood vessels from appearing.

These lenses tend to be more durable and can not tear as easily as soft lenses. They also consistently have clear vision and will hold their shape when you blink, unlike soft lenses. Typically they can last for years with properly care and if you do not require a prescription change.

Toric contact lenses are made out of hydrogel, they also have a mix of water and polymer. The water allows for oxygen to get to the eyes and therefor you can wear them for several hours. There are also Soft Contacts that are made out of silicone gel that can be used for a longer period of time.

Toric lenses ares hold a completely different design to them than the typical soft or Gas Permeable Contact Lenses. They posses two powers and help adjust light to a certain angle for either the corneal or the curvature to process.

The first power is the exact 'measurements' for your Eye Astigmatism and the other power is catered specifically for Myopia also known as nearsightedness or short sightedness or Hyperopia also known as farsightedness or long sighted people.

The downside to toric lenses however is that the toric contact lens must be placed a certain way in your eye and can not differ from this position. It should be noted that you are still able to blink and look around.

To properly explain as to why you can not flexibility rotate the lens, you must first picture a normal contact lens that is spherical in shape. This sphere has the same amount of optical power applied to it through the shape. The toric lens does not. The toric lens has two powers, so in order to see properly, they must be positioned accordingly.
