Astigmatism In Children Information
Astigmatism In Children is an eye defect, which causes
Blurry Vision due to the eye being unable to process or to clearly focus on a given object.
This is because there is an irregularity in the Cornea or lens.
There are two different types of astigmatism in children.
Regular Astigmatism can come from an impurity in either the cornea or crystalline lens and can be simply fixed by a Toric Lens.
Toric lenses have two layers; the second is slightly smaller than the first one. Toric Lenses for Astigmatism are typically shaped like a prolate spheroid or a toroidal; it is these shapes that help the eye conform to its should be state.
The other type of astigmatism in children is called irregular. Irregular Astigmatism is caused by either having a corneal scar or some sort of scar in the crystalline lens, due to the nature of the damage; normal Eyeglasses can not correct the problem.
To Protect Your Eyesight or to correct any problems, you will need to either use Prescription Glasses, Contact Lenses or undergo Laser Eye Surgery.
You and your children should consider which option is best for them. Typically you should base it on different factors like ocular health, refractive status, and even lifestyle.
For people who have the keratoconus disease, the toric lens is often recommended to help achieve better eyesight than regular spectacles. For those who have a chalaztion, which causes a deformation to the eye, it is recommended to treat it by surgery because it will quickly correct, if not cure, the Astigmatism.
It has been reported that 3 in 10 children anywhere from 5 to 17 years old have astigmatism. Usually Astigmatism in children appears right from the day they were born, however, it is hard to encounter or spot at such an early age. Many are unsure what exactly causes astigmatism, but it is known that poor nutrition can greatly make the condition worse.

Children who have some of the following are more likely to develop astigmatism no matter how healthy they might be:
Too much weight on the upper lid of the eye. Damage to the eye such as a cut or scar on the cornea.Genetics, if one or more parents have it.
Children starting to have astigmatism may lift their head up slightly so they can read or view a picture clearly. Children with higher amounts of astigmatism may have Blurry Vision and are even forced to Squint. They can show excessive signs of fatigue, headaches, and extreme migraines.
It is important to take them to an Eye Care Specialist immediately when they exhibit these kinds of symptoms before the condition worsens. It is also recommended that you take them before any signs occur so you can either spot and correct the condition before they show any discomfort.
