LASIK is commonly referred to as the best laser eye surgery available, but that's actually not saying very much, as there are multiple different types of LASIK surgery that are used.

The basic process is usually the same, and it does make a very effective permanent treatment for refractive vision errors like Myopia also known as “nearsightedness” or “short sightedness” and Hyperopia also known as "farsightedness" or "long sightedness".

There are plenty of reasons why thousands of people opt to use LASIK to Improve their Vision, although there are some potential side effects that you should be aware of as well. If you really want to Protect Your Eyesight, fortify the tissues with the proper nutrients.

Sometimes though, laser surgery is the only option, so here are some facts about it as well as some information on the different types so that you can be as informed as possible and choose the best laser eye surgery for your needs.

One of the main reasons LASIK is used so often is that it's practically painless, especially when compared to other vision correction surgeries, and the vision improvements are apparent as early as 24 hours after the surgery takes place. This sort of instantaneous benefit is exactly what makes it so appealing to most of the population.

The procedure starts by using a small tool called a microkeratome to cut a flap in the Cornea, revealing the inner tissue.

An excimer laser then vaporizes the sections of tissue in the cornea that are causing problems, after which the flap is closed again. It's relatively simple and straightforward, and the procedure has been fine tuned to prevent most side effects.

One type of Lasik Surgery uses the microkeratome actually, but not all types do anymore. Some people consider the best laser eye surgery to be completely blade-free, as there is less chance of error.

This second type of LASIK surgery uses a second, smaller laser called a femtosecond laser that slices the flap quickly and painlessly. The excimer laser can then move in and alter the shape of the exposed tissue underneath, correcting any pesky Vision Problems.

No matter what method is used however, the flap is replaced after the surgery because it makes an ideal natural band aid to help speed up the healing process. Both methods are painless, but as mentioned, a lot of people prefer the newer methods that don't use a physical blade.

PRK laser surgery is differentiated from Lasik because it doesn't go through the step of cutting the flap in the outer layer of the cornea.

Rather, the laser is directed straight onto the surface of the eye. There is a tiny layer that covers the eye called the epithelium, which is destroyed by the process, but it grows back with time.

Lasek surgery doesn't cut a flap either, just like PRK, but instead of destroying the epithelium, it's completely removed from the eye before the start of the surgery, and then after the surgery is completed it's placed back onto the eye.

Choosing the best laser eye surgery is all a matter of preference, but you have several options to choose from.
